Here is a list of some of Canada's major E. Coli outbreaks:

  • In 2000, an outbreak of E. Coli O157:H7 in Walkerton, Ontario, killed seven people and sickened more than 2,300.
  • In 2006, an outbreak of E. Coli O157:H7 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, sickened 27 people and killed one.
  • In 2012, an outbreak of E. Coli O157:H7 in Chilliwack, British Columbia, sickened 18 people and killed one.

The E. Coli variant known as O157:H7 is often the most virulent and can cause hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which affects the kidneys and the ability of blood to clot.
