General Hokanson's Vision for the National Guard's Future
A New Era of Readiness and Relevance
In a recent speech at the 144th General Conference of the National Guard Association of the United States, General Daniel R. Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau, outlined his vision for the future of the National Guard. General Hokanson's remarks focused on the need for the Guard to remain ready to respond to any challenge, while also becoming more relevant to the communities it serves.
"The National Guard has always been a force of readiness and resilience," said General Hokanson. "But today, we face a more complex and uncertain world than ever before. We must be prepared to respond to any challenge, whether it's a natural disaster, a cyberattack, or a military conflict."
To meet these challenges, General Hokanson said the Guard must continue to invest in its readiness. "We must ensure that our Soldiers and Airmen are trained and equipped to the highest standards," he said. "And we must have the resources we need to respond to any contingency."
In addition to readiness, General Hokanson also emphasized the importance of relevance. "The National Guard is not just a military force," he said. "We are also a community force. We are part of the fabric of our communities, and we must be relevant to the people we serve."
To become more relevant, General Hokanson said the Guard must focus on building relationships with local communities. "We must be engaged with our communities on a regular basis," he said. "We must understand their needs and be responsive to their concerns."
General Hokanson's vision for the future of the National Guard is ambitious, but it is also achievable. By investing in readiness and building relationships with local communities, the Guard can continue to be a force for good in America.
