Maple Leafs Matthews Signs $58.2 Million Extension

5-Year Deal Makes Matthews Highest-Paid Player in NHL

Contract Details Unveiled

Auston Matthews has signed a five-year, $58.2 million contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, making him the highest-paid player in the NHL.

The deal, which carries a salary of $11.6 million per year, includes a no-trade clause and a signing bonus of $54.5 million.

"Auston is a special player and a leader on and off the ice," said Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas. "We are thrilled to have him committed to our team for the long term."

Matthews, 23, is coming off a season in which he led the Maple Leafs in scoring with 60 goals and 46 assists. He has been named to the NHL All-Star team three times and won the Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal scorer in 2020.

The signing of Matthews is a major coup for the Maple Leafs, who have been looking to lock up their star center to a long-term deal.
